(Caracas – Venezuela, 1923)

Carlos Cruz-Diez is one of the top representatives of Op Art (Optic Art) worldwide,. Along with Jesus Soto, Alejandro Otero and Juvenal Ravelo, they form the kinetic movement in Venezuela, that developed widely in the 20th century, until it became one of the most prominent in Hispanic America.

He studied in Bellas Artes School in Caracas, where he was also a professor of History of Applied Arts, then sub-director and following that Painting teacher. He taught kinetic techniques in the Superior School of Belle Arts in Pairs. He is president of the “Museo de la Estampa y Diseño Carlos Cruz Diez” Foundation in Caracas.

His beginnings in art go back to the Kinetic Movement of the 50s and 60s. The development of his plastic reflection have modified the notions of perception of color in art. The proposal of Carlos Cruz-Diez is based in the conceived color as an autonomous reality, something never seen before, that evolves in readmite and space without the help of forms and with no need of support,

His artística proposal, is founded on his eight researches on color behavior:

Couleur Additive, Physichromie, Inuction Chromatique, Chromointerference, Transchromie, Chromosaturarion, Chromospcope and Couleur dan l’espace.
