The Library and Documentation Center of the Reina Sofía National Art Center Museum, in collaboration with the Urban Photography Archive and the Cruz-Diez Art Foundation, present the documentary exhibition The Weight of Form. The Graphic Design of Carlos Cruz-Diez, a review of the graphic work done by the Venezuelan artist between 1930 and 2015.
Articulated under three formats: editorial design, posters, and exhibition catalogs; the show allows us to know another facet of Cruz-Diez, in which he played an important role in the development of the Venezuelan publishing industry. The artist's contributions to design were the formal and chromatic sensitivity of his artistic production, as well as a search for simple and effective solutions based on the orderly and symbiotic coexistence of form, color and content.
Carlos Cruz-Diez was part of a generation of Venezuelan artists who worked simultaneously in graphic and industrial design, due to the absence of professionals in this area, this situation was replicated in other Latin American countries such as Brazil and Argentina, where the companies they relied on the Concreto artists.
The exhibition will be open from March 12 to June 11, 2021.
