To commemorate its 20th anniversary, the iconic Shanghai art district “M50” presents: "Continuance - The 20th Anniversary Special Exhibition of M50" from November 29 to December 20, 2019. The exhibition will invite 20 outstanding artists who have established themselves in the M50.
Such is the case of artist Ding Yi, one of the most influential contemporary artists in China and one of the pioneers in working with abstraction in this country, whose workshop, to date, is in the M50.
Resident of Shanghai since his birth, the artist has repeatedly pointed to this city as his muse and, in the span of about three decades, has described the fierce entropy of Shanghai, its profound and implacable changes, through its particular style of abstraction.
As an early gathering place for Shanghai artists, the M50 has been transformed and updated several times. It is now a nationally renowned art park and an important landmark that represents the buoyant Shanghai art scene.
During these two decades, the M50 has grown alongside artists who, like Ding Yi, settled in the area and jointly witnessed that Chinese contemporary art took root there, to later migrate to the rest of the world.
