Carmina Escobar (Mexico City, 1981) is an interdisciplinary artist based in Los Angeles whose practice spans radical voice, performance, sound art, installation, film, and intermedial creation. Her work explores the voice as a space for rupture, ritual, and collective transformation. Drawing on the experience of migration and liminal states, she develops works that blur the boundaries between performance, concert, installation, ritual, and collective experience.
Through improvisation, sound experimentation, and the creation of large-scale projects, she investigates the limits of musicality, language, identity, and the possibilities of human communication.
She has presented her work in Cuba, Mexico, the United States, Canada, and Europe, at venues and festivals such as Fábrica de Arte Cubano, CTM Festival, Borealis Festival, The Kitchen, The Broad, PST: LA/LA, and REDCAT, among others. She has held residencies at MacDowell, The Chinati Foundation, Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts, and The Hermitage Artist Retreat. Among the most notable awards he has received are the Creative Capital Award (2026), the Foundation for Contemporary Arts Artist Award in Music/Sound (2020), the NPN Creation Fund (2021), the New Music USA Development Fund (2021), and FONCA Young Creators (2016).
Among her large-scale projects are Fiesta Perpetua!, Pura Entraña, and Bajo la Sombra del Sol, works that bring together sound, place, ritual, and collective memory through performance, audiovisual, and installation formats.
