On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the famous Pyramid designed by the Cantonese architect Ieoh Ming Pei, the Louvre Museum commissioned the artist Elias Crespin to conceive a new permanent installation at the top of the Midi staircase.
The work entitled L’Onde du Midi (The Southern Wave) consists of 128 cylindrical tubes alienated in parallel and suspended in the air by transparent threads.
Starting on January 25, 2020, that the piece inaugurates, the Venezuelan artist will join a group of great contemporary art figures that have been chosen by one of the most important museums in the world to create works specifically for the building: Anselm Kiefer (2007), François Morellet (2010) or Cy Twombly (2010).
L'Onde du Midi belongs, within Crespin's body of work, to the category of “Plano Flexionante”. When in rest position, the composition presents a rectangular horizontal plane almost ten meters long (1.50 x 9.50 m), that unfolds drawing a graceful and subtle choreography.
