Francisco Muñoz's painting, "Manos sosteniendo un ojo" (Hands holding an eye), distorts elements from Mesoamerican art by incorporating contemporary colors and materials, generating polyform and ambivalent images with multiple layers of meaning. The piece, which belongs to the "Rosetas" series, was selected to be part of the XIX Rufino Tamayo Painting Biennial.
In this edition of the biennial we tried to show that Mexico has a very varied production of painting, bringing proposals of the most traditional but also admitting new and much more experimental variants. The desire of the two committees was to offer this rich panorama to begin to discuss painting as part of contemporary art and not as a phase there, more or less lost among other things.
