Biography

Paul Muguet

Portrait of the artist with his piece Secuencia No.24, 2017

Paul Muguet holds a degree in visual arts from the School of Fine Arts in Annecy, France, and has a Master's degree in Visual Arts from the School of Fine Arts in Nîmes, France. In 2001 he moved to Brussels where he worked as assistant to the Belgian minimalist painter Marthe Wéry (1930-2005) who influenced his work. He returns to France and trains as an editorial designer at Image Center with the intention of exploring his interest in the linguistic sign and typography. In 2009, the FONCA awarded him the Young Creators scholarship for his Glosolalia project. Since 2008, his work is part of the JUMEX Foundation / Collection and since 2013, of the Lafuente Archive in Santander, Spain, among others. In 2016 he is part of the selection of artists of the XVI Rufino Tamayo Painting Biennial. In his work, Muguet intervenes daily objects and uses the written word to redefine the relationship with the things that surround us and our way of naming them. At the same time, his pictorial work seeks to activate the reading of the works exposing the expressive power of color and deliberately using a formal purity to question the relationship between object and painting.
